The New York Sour is a great way to change up the traditional Whiskey Sour.
Its signature feature is a red wine float. The best way to achieve the float is to place your bar spoon upside down over the drink and get it as close to the surface as you can without touching. Slowing pour the wine over the back of the spoon and slowly raise the spoon as the drink fills up.
If you want to get creative, consider making a red wine syrup and coating the bottom of the glass with it instead of floating the wine on top. Take 1.5 cups red wine (petit sirah or malbec work great) and 3/4 cup sugar, simmer them in a saucepan until the volume is reduced by half. Whisk frequently to prevent burning. Store in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
