This is the classic Kentucky Derby drink, but it is good enough for any summer Wednesday afternoon. It is best made with fresh mint from your own garden. Most mint varieties work.
I sometimes infuse my simple syrup with fresh mint leaves to make mint syrup to use for this drink. It adds another dimension of sweet minty flavor.
If you don’t have classic julep cups passed down from your southern ancestors, rocks glasses will do.
Crushing the ice is important. Don’t skip it. Use a lewis bag to crush your ice.
